It’s often the obvious things we neglect when it comes to better ourselves, we’ve become blind to many principles and mindsets which are staring right at us.

Here a few hard pills to swallow which may shed some light on those principles going into the new year according to the author and activist Najwa Zebian.

1. It’s no one’s responsibility to make you happy

By relying on someone else for your main source of happiness you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. True happiness should come from the successes of your won ventures and trials.

Stop giving up your power by expecting someone or something to change your life.

2. Not everyone thinks like you

What makes sense to you doesn’t necessarily make sense to someone else.

Perspectives differ.

Communicate.

3. No one owes you anything

You could be the most generous person on the planet, but if you’re acting this way with the expectation of an equal return, remember, no one owes you anything. Try not to always expect a return following a gift.

You are the leader of your own life. Work for what you want even if the return may not seem great.

4. You can’t be happy all the time

Everyone would love to be happy all the time, but this is unrealistic.

No one likes it, but pain is inevitable, by accepting that it’s impossible to be happy all the time, it helps us to embrace the unhappy moments in life. Pain is necessary for growth.

Without pain, you would never realize how important it is to cherish the happy and amazing moments.

The Takeaway

Going into the new year, set out your goals and plans. However, try to avoid having unrealistic expectations. 2020 has shown us anything can happen so be prepared to accept some harsh truths.

For some of us, these ‘hard pills’ to swallow may take time to digest and that’s okay, as long as you’re making an effort!

Have a great week!
