“When you bring purpose to your life, know your priorities and achieve high productivity on the priority that matters most every day, your life makes sense in the extraordinary becomes possible” — Gary Keller

Purpose → Priorities → Productivity → Possible

In ‘The One Thing’, Gary Keller talks about how your priorities change all the time, and being able to adapt your lifestyle to your priorities on a daily, weekly, or yearly basis is the key to a greater level of productivity and making things possible.

1. Purpose

Without purpose, your reasons to be productive and live a fulfilling life are meaningless. Your ‘Why Power’ has to be as strong as your efforts. if not, stronger.

Purpose has the ability to fuel discipline and form the ladder to make things possible.

2. Priorities

As you get older and grow as a person, your priorities will change. You will have other people to look out for and provide for whilst also balancing different commitments. However, if you are aware of these changes, the main thing is being able to adapt your lifestyle to still do what you find enjoyment in.

If you love being active but you get a new job that has you working more hours a week, you may find yourself not going to the gym anymore, eating poorly, and losing yourself. Sure, your priorities have changed because you are tied to a rota, but all it takes is awareness and a lifestyle change to still do what you enjoy. That could be sleeping 2 hours earlier to wake up earlier and be able to be active and go to the gym before work.

Your priorities will change but your reason to do what you love won’t.

3. Productivity

The infamous word we all love and hate.

You can aim to do whatever is on your to-do list but if you’re not efficient with your time, you won’t get anything done.

A study showed that happy people are 13% more productive. I am a firm believer in the fact that when you can find enjoyment in being busy and doing things that are seen as ‘productive’ you will truly make progress. The emotions tied to productivity could be to do with the people around you or the environment in which you work.

Design your environment to reduce the friction between you and productivity.

“Productivity is doing many things but Effectiveness is doing what’s most important” — Jay Shetty

4. Possible

By finding a purpose, balancing your priorities, and being productive (effective) with your time, you are able to achieve your goals and make them possible.

Have a great week!
